NASHVILLE TEETH CLEANING
At Roach Family Dentistry
Although practicing good oral hygiene habits at home helps preserve the quality of our teeth, thorough professional care maintains the integrity of our smiles in the long run. At Roach Family Dentistry, we know that no two smiles are the same. This is why we pride ourselves on delivering the custom oral care that each patient requires.
Achieving a Happier Smile
Your appointment will begin with an examination, followed by X-rays if needed. Next, your dental hygienist will properly clean your teeth using an ultrasonic device. This device, paired with a gentle spray of cool water, will eliminate large pieces of tartar. Afterwards, each tooth is given special attention as your teeth are individually cleaned with utensils that remove plaque and any remaining tartar. Finally, your teeth will be flossed, polished, and rinsed. If necessary, a fluoride treatment may be applied in order to further protect your dazzling smile.
More Than Just Pearly Whites
Contrary to popular belief, professional cleanings aren’t only for cosmetic purposes. Seeing a dentist regularly is also beneficial for your health. Over time, a sticky, colorless film of bacteria called “plaque” sits on our teeth and gum line. If the plaque is not removed, a hard calcium deposit called “tartar” will form. This erodes tooth enamel and can cause tooth decay as well as gum disease. According to research, poor dental hygiene also puts people at risk for other diseases such as heart disease, stroke, and bone loss.
Is Teeth Cleaning Painful?
In short, no — though some people with very sensitive teeth might consider teeth cleaning to be a mildly uncomfortable. However, if a patient does feel any pain or discomfort at any point during the cleaning, it’s imperative to immediately let their hygienist know to ensure the safety of the patient. Adjustments can be made to the procedure if the patient is uncomfortable.
